1995:
In order to develop its countryside appeal, Teltow-Fläming embarks on the Flaeming-Skate project. To protect the idea’s unique character, the scheme is initially ‘disguised’ as a cycle path connecting various places and landmarks.


January 2001:

The Flaeming-Skate project is presented to the public for the first time at the International Green Week trade fair in Berlin. The internet site www.flaeming-skate.de is launched at a press conference.


April 2001:

Completion of the 11.5 km Kolzenburg-Jänickendorf-Kolzenburg circuit.


May 2001:

The Flaeming-Skate project is presented at the 5th Fläming Spring Festival in Möckern on a Teltow-Fläming Council float under the slogan www.flaeming-skate.de.


24. Juni 2001:

Opening of the first subsection by former Prime Minister of Brandenburg, Manfred Stolpe and District Council Leader Peer Giesecke.

29. September 2001:
1st Teltow-Fläming Festival for Skaters and the Disabled in Kolzenburg, under the auspices of Christina Rau, the wife of the President of Germany at the time.


February 2002:

The first edition of the map “Skating and Cycling around Teltow-Fläming” is published.


25. August 2002:

Opening of the 100 km Flaeming-Skate circuit in Petkus by the Prime Minister of Brandenburg at the time, Matthias Platzeck. A uniquely successful story begins in the presence of numerous guests, including the former national Minister for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Dr Christine Bergmann.

 

8. September 2002:
2nd Teltow-Fläming Festival for Skaters and the Disabled in Werder, again under the auspices of Christina Rau (photo, center).

1. to 4. February 2003:

Flaeming-Skate appears at the International Trade Fair for Sports (Ispo) in Munich.

 

February 2003:

The Teltow-Fläming Road Safety Organization, Fläming & Spreewald Red Cross, Teltow-Fläming District Council and the Police Safety Division agree to set up a safety partnership for the Flaeming-Skate.

 

March 2003:
The District Council wins the bid to run the 2005 European Speed Skating Championship.


7. to 11. March 2003:

From now on, the Flaeming-Skate is presented every year at the International Tourism Exhibition in Berlin.

 

30. May 2003:

Judith Gericke from Luckenwalde is crowned 1st Skate Queen.

 

9. July 2003:

Jüterbog town councillors decide in favour of converting the town’s equestrian stadium into a skating arena.

June/July 2003:

Signs are put up clearly marking the more challenging sections of the track (e.g. Ließen Hill). They remind skaters to assess their ability correctly and to wear the appropriate protective gear.

4. August 2003:

The first ground breaking ceremony is held for the 9.1 km long and 2m wide extension from Hohenseefeld via Ihlow and Niendorf to Dahme.

 

27. September 2003:

3rd Teltow-Fläming Festival for Skaters and the Disabled in Wahlsdorf

 

December 2003:

A book entitled “A Tower Hobgoblin On The Go” is published with sayings and stories about the Flaeming-Skate.

 

11. December 2003:

Founding of the organisational committee to arrange and run the European Speed Skating Championship in Teltow-Fläming.

 

Februar 2004:
The first of c. 70 traffic signs “Caution – Skaters Crossing” are put up in Teltow-Fläming. They are erected wherever the Flaeming-Skate  crosses public roads.

 

The new signs were designed especially for the track and approved by a special provision from the Brandenburg Ministry for Traffic and Urban Planning.

 

17. March 2004:
Foundation of the support organisation Flaeming-Skate e.V.



1. to 4. April 2004:
For the first time, Flaeming-Skate is showcased at the ‘Vital’ trade fair in Berlin.

 


6. April 2004:

Foundation of the skating and cycling club Fläming e.V. with headquarters in Jüterbog.

24. April 2004:

The skate and cycle link path from Meisterweg to Teichwiesenweg and the starting point “Gateway to the Flaeming-Skate” is opened near the District Council House in Luckenwalde.

24. April bis 7. Mai 2004:
Der Luckenwalder Architekt Robert Neye zeigt die Ergebnisse seiner Diplomarbeit zur Flaeming-Skate in einer Ausstellung

4th Teltow-Fläming Festival for The Disabled and Skaters.


19. September 2004:

State speed skating championships in the Jüterbog Skate Arena.


20. December 2004:

The Mid Brandenburg Savings Bank (MBS) signs a sponsorship contract to support the European championships for 2005 and youth work on the Flaeming-Skate

14. March 2005:

The Flaeming-Skate receives the Brandenburg Tourism Award at the ITB 2005.

14. March to 4. May 2005:
Building work in the Skate Arena in preparation for the European Speed Skating Championships.


17./18. June 2005:
DGerman speed skating championships in the Skate Arena in Jüterbog. These are the dress rehearsal for the European championships taking place a few weeks later.


23. July 2005:
Opening of Circuit 4 of the Flaeming-Skate with a festival in Werder, inaugurating it as the only track in Europe for unhindered marathon skater training (c. 45 km in length). Even before the official opening there is widespread approval and a great reaction from the skating community.

31. July to 7. August 2005:

The European Speed Skating Championships 2005 are held at the Flaeming-Skate. After the opening at the Jüterbog Skate Arena on 31 July 2005, track competitions take place in the arena on 1, 2, 3 and also 4 August, as some competitions have to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The street competitions are held at the Altes Lager carting track on 5 and 6 August, with the skating marathon ending the formal competitions on 7 August. Following this there is an open marathon for all-comers, with 167 participants crossing the starting line.
Around 200 athletes from 20 nations take part in the European championships. About 15,000 spectators follow the races. Both competitors and guests are completely thrilled by Europe’s skating region, south of Berlin.

Opening of the urban cycle and skating path in Dahme (from Torgasse to Nordhag).

16. September 2005:

Holger Rupprecht, the Brandenburg Minister for Education, Youth and Sport designates the Jüterbog Skate Arena as the state’s primary training centre for speed skating, enhancing its status in every sense. Up to this point there has only been one training centre for skaters in Brandenburg (for roller figure skating, in Potsdam). The Jüterbog Skate Arena becomes the 173rd sports training centre in Brandenburg and the only centre for speed skaters.

3./4. October 2005:
The Flaeming-Skate is showcased during the main festivities at the 15th Day of German Unity in Potsdam.


9. December 2005:
Dr. Wolfgang Krüger, State Secretary at the Brandenburg Department of Trade and Industry, visits the skate region on an informational tour. Accompanied by District Council Leader Peer Giesecke, he visits the Skate Hotel in Petkus, the Jüterbog Skate Arena and the ‘Erlebnishof’ adventure farmyard in Werder, amongst other places.


13. January 2006:
The Teltow-Fläming District Council’s new year reception is based on the theme of tourism. The Flaeming-Skate plays an important part as the most significant tourist project in the district.


8. to 12. February 2006:
The Flaeming-Skate is showcased at the Hamburg Travel Exhibition.

4. March 2006:
The German Walkers Cup is held at the Jüterbog Skate Arena under the slogan “Walk-Run-Skate”.

30. April 2006:
The Berlin-Leipzig cycle path is opened in Teltow-Fläming on the Flaeming-Skate.

5. to 6. August 2006:
2nd Flaeming-Skate-Days in the Jüterbog Skate Arena.


3. September 2006:
6th Teltow-Fläming Festival for Skaters and the Disabled in Kolzenburg.


10. September 2006:
Inline skating tour with the company ‘terra-fit’ on the Flaeming-Skate.


10. September 2006:

The Jüterbog Town Cup tournament in hockey and skating is held at the Jüterbog Skate Arena.


14. September 2006:
The first ground breaking ceremony is held for the Dahme-Körba Pond extension to the network.

The Flaeming-Skate participates in the 1st ZDF Television Inline Days in Mainz.


22. March 2007:
During a working visit, Brandenburg’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Ulrich Junghanns praises the Flaeming-Skate as a "outstanding attraction".

15. April 2007:
Ceremonial opening of the Dahme-Körba Pond section and the new town circuit in Dahme.

The Flaeming-Skate is showcased at the International Green Week trade fair in Berlin.

The track gets new signposting.


19. March 2008:
