Memorials of 1813

The wars of liberation against Napoleonic foreign rule in 1813 raged in what is today the district of Teltow-Fläming. Significant battles took place in Großbeeren and Dennewitz on 23 August and 6 September 1813, which helped prevent a renewed occupation of Berlin by French troops.

Battles were also fought in the smaller towns and villages of the region with ten thousand men losing their lives during this time.

These former happenings are commemorated regularly in Teltow-Fläming, with events such as the historical encampment in Dennewitz or the annual victory festival in Großbeeren, amongst others. Numerous monuments also induce you to follow the traces of history – whether by car, bicycle, on foot or – especially around Dennewitz and Niedergörsdorf – on skates.

There are monuments to the 1813 wars in the towns and villages of Teltow-Fläming listed below (the list is not claimed to be complete). For further information, select the name of the respective location. (German content only.)
